Practicing Sustainable Architecture Lecture Series First year student creating
greater 'sustainable practice' awareness in University of Calgary
Masters of Architecture program. Based
on Architecture
2030 initiative, challenging design professionals
to implement
and teach about carbon-neutral design to stop climate change.
Agent launched "Practicing Sustainable Architecture" lecture
series to inform and inspire fellow students to take on this challenge
in their careers. Top-notch speakers like Marjan Eggermont, William McDonough,
David Kelly and Stephen Pope were secured to address
different aspects of the global climate change problem and how a
new approach to design can provide solutions. A number of topic-related
books were purchased and donated to the
faculty's resource library
as
a continued education
element to the mission. |

W.A.R. (Water Quality, Air Quality and Recycling) University of Lethbridge classes
received environmental mini-presentations - much like an advertising
campaign - from one of their peers. Agent prepared three weekly
ten-minute seminars which were intended to make a small impact
on the students who will receive the information. On-line survey
collected feedback from students and measure impact of awareness
and behaviour change. |

Climate Change Manifesto 5-agent team, known as "Mercury
upRISING", educated University of Calgary students about
the science of climate change
and society's effect on climate and promoted communication and
innovation about how students can reduce greenhouse gas emissions
in their
personal, academic, and future professional lives. Development
of a "Climate Change Manifesto", representing how Environmental
Design students will attenuate climate change, which was
then used to engage other students to develop their own commitments
to attenuating
climate change. The Climate Change Manifesto served as the inspiration
for an exhibition in the Faculty of Environmental Design
gallery entitled "Think About It", which was on display
for a two-week period. The Mercury upRISING organized a climate
change forum on March 21, 2007, featuring a talk by Dr. David Keith
(Canada Research Chair in Energy and the Environment) and a screening
of
the documentary "Manufactured Landscapes". The Mercury upRISING
Sustainable Mission Force team continues to make waves by extending
the climate change manifesto challenge to other design schools
across North America. |

State of Sustainability: University of Alberta Presentation 4 agents educated University
of Alberta students
in 7 sessions, reaching over 100 people, about how the campus has
attempted to minimize its ecological footprint so far, and promoted students'
involvement
in furthering
environmental
causes and sustainable development at their university. Examples
of environmental initiatives and resource saving measures at other
universities were researched and presented. Agents launched
the University of Alberta Campus Sustainability Coalition (CSC) to act as
a hub for communication and collaboration around campus sustainability issues. |

Bridge Day: Connecting Community and Environment This two-day event, organized
by the Be Aware Club at the University of Lethbridge, featured
keynote speakers, information booths, local music, cultural
diversity and educational
videos.
Target was to raise awareness about environmental
